Nairobi – Ol-Pejeta Conservancy

  • 220 km, 3 to 4 hours

You will be picked up from your hotel or at the airport in Nairobi and transported to the renowned Ol Pejeta Conservancy. This former cattle ranch has transformed into a sanctuary for some of the world’s last remaining white rhinos, seeking refuge from those who covet their horns.
Stunning landscapes will unfold during the journey and you will have the opportunity to stop and take photographs at the Equator and optional de-tour to learn about the Kikuyu culture at Thingira Cultural Village. Kikuyu is the biggest tribe in Kenya, a tribe that preoccupied the areas around slopes of Mt. Kenya and Aberdare ranges due to the red fertile soils and favorable weather for cultivating their crops.

Arrival at the conservancy will be in for lunch.

The park teems with a diverse range of wildlife, and you’ll have the chance to explore the park in your own vehicle to observe these animals in their natural habitat on the Laikipia Plateau. After you’ve satisfied your appetite for natural beauty, you’ll spend the night at your camp or lodge, where dinner will be provided.

Originally the home of Lord Tom Delamere, and subsequently the property of the infamous multi-millionaire Adnan Khashoggi, Ol Pejeta House is a private house that resonates with past events. The pictures on the walls, the secretly interlinking rooms and the grand views hark back to a bygone era. Set in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the house looks across tropical gardens to the plains and waterhole. It has 2 superior en-suite guest rooms with dressing rooms and 2 standard en-suite guest rooms with terrace. One of the superior rooms houses Khashoggi’s notorious immense double bed. Buffalo Cottage has 2 deluxe rooms and a fireplace. The house is staffed by room valets and a private chef. Meals are served on the terrace or in the garden.

Full Day in Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Spend the full day exploring Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Ol-Pejeta is a privately owned conservancy, overlooking the peaks of Mount Kenya. The conservancy has a great number of wildlife including all the big five animals (elephant, rhino, lion, cheetah, and buffalo) among other game. The conservancy also has a special sanctuary that shelters several the rare and endangered species including black rhino, Gravy’s zebra, the Jackson’s hartebeest, and Chimpanzees. The Chimpanzee sanctuary is the only one in Kenya. It is a home for orphaned and abused chimpanzees, rehabilitating them to help them learn to live by themselves as in their own habitat.

Ol-Pejeta Conservancy – Samburu National Reserve

  • 165 km – 2 to 3 hours

Breakfast starts the day, and you will have chance to say farewell to the beasts of the Ol-Pejeta on an en-route morning game drive. A drive through the highland farms on the slopes of Mount Kenya and arid vegetations of Samburu, awaits you on your way to Samburu National Reserve.

Upon arrival at Samburu, you will experience a quick game drive through the park as you make your way to the accommodation that you’ve chosen for your stay. Here, you will be served a well-deserved lunch and then be whisked off on your first proper game drive. You’ll range through Samburu; with so many different environments in one park you can be sure each journey will be different to the next.

With plenty of scenery to take in on your way, and then the initial chances to spot the animals that you’ve travelled so far for, it’s time for dinner with nature surrounding you. Whichever camp or lodge that you choose to stay in, there will be a stunning dining room with vistas across the park.

You will be served breakfast at your camp or lodge and then begin your first complete day out in the plains of Samburu that you began discovering yesterday, and also take a trip to the adjacent Buffalo Springs National Reserve. These parks offer a contrast, with Samburu taking water and growing greenery from the flow of the Ewaso Ng’iro River, whilst Buffalo Springs is dry and arid.

Across the parks, you will have plenty of chances to find and photograph the big five of African safari, along with:

Along with the forested areas of Samburu, you will traverse the ancient lava flows and striking geology of Buffalo Springs. After breakfast, your will travel in your safari vehicle south and west towards Lake Naivasha. A stop will be made on the way, giving you a chance to experience the 74-metre cascade of Nyahururu waterfall.

You’ll arrive at Lake Naivasha for lunch, and the afternoon gives you the option of a boat ride on the lake to spot some of the smaller, yet no less stunning, fauna.
This trip to Crescent Island will be filled with herbivores. You can see zebras, hippos, giraffes, and a stunning array of birds that make this lake their home. Upon returning to your accommodation, you’ll be served dinner before bedding down inside this nature reserve.

Full Day in Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Spend the full day exploring Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Ol-Pejeta is a privately owned conservancy, overlooking the peaks of Mount Kenya. The conservancy has a great number of wildlife including all the big five animals (elephant, rhino, lion, cheetah, and buffalo) among other game. The conservancy also has a special sanctuary that shelters several the rare and endangered species including black rhino, Gravy’s zebra, the Jackson’s hartebeest, and Chimpanzees. The Chimpanzee sanctuary is the only one in Kenya. It is a home for orphaned and abused chimpanzees, rehabilitating them to help them learn to live by themselves as in their own habitat.

Sweetwater’s Serena Camp

Nestled within the expansive Ol Pejeta Conservancy, one of Kenya’s most renowned conservancies and habitat to the ‘Big Five’ (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, and leopard), Sweetwaters Serena Camp presents a vacation experience that is truly unparalleled.

These spacious tents combine the traditional ambiance of a safari camp with the comforts of home. They offer either a king bed or two twin beds and views of the water hole; amenities include a bathroom with a one-hand washbasin, a WC and a shower with a shower curtain.

Sweetwater’s Serena – Morani Wing

Tucked inside the landscaped grounds and accessible via winding stone pathways, Sweetwaters Serena Camp, new Morani Wing features 17 deluxe double, twin and triple tents, one of which is specially adapted for guests with mobility concerns. Bathrooms include a two-hand washbasin, a WC and a shower with a glass door. The accommodation offers an elegant retreat amid the breath-taking natural beauty of Kenya’s Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Make yourself at home during your safari holiday with modern amenities including free Wi-Fi, a coffee/tea making station and plush bathrobes and slippers. Some of our tents are on raised platforms with private balconies; the rest include private verandas, all with safari chairs and tables. Evening hot water bottles are provided; mosquito nets, extra beds and cots are available upon request.

Ol Pejeta House

Originally the home of Lord Tom Delamere, and subsequently the property of the infamous multi-millionaire Adnan Khashoggi, Ol Pejeta House is a private house that resonates with past events. The pictures on the walls, the secretly interlinking rooms and the grand views hark back to a bygone era. Set in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the house looks across tropical gardens to the plains and waterhole. It has 2 superior en-suite guest rooms with dressing rooms and 2 standard en-suite guest rooms with terrace. One of the superior rooms houses Khashoggi’s notorious immense double bed. Buffalo Cottage has 2 deluxe rooms and a fireplace. The house is staffed by room valets and a private chef. Meals are served on the terrace or in the garden.

As well as day and night game drives, activities include nature walks with a resident naturalist, bird watching, horse riding and lion tracking. The house has 2 swimming pools and a selection of books and board games, and also offers beauty treatments

From here it is possible to visit Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only place to see these endangered and highly intelligent animals in Kenya. Visits to Morani Information Centre and rhino holding pens can be arranged.

The River Camp

The River Camp in Lakipia is a stunning property that combines exquisite interiors with breathtaking views of Mount Kenya. Mutara Camp stands as the exclusive guest accommodation within the remarkable 20,000-acre Mutara Conservancy, situated adjacent to the renowned Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which encompasses a vast expanse of 90,000 acres of pristine African wilderness. In this expansive natural haven, the Big Five freely roam, and it is home to the last two northern white rhinos on Earth. With a limited count of only 15 sumptuous guest tents, Mutara Camp offers a tranquil sanctuary that harmonizes perfectly with its surroundings, while also providing a generous dose of luxury.

Ol-Pejeta Conservancy – Samburu National Reserve

  • 165 km – 2 to 3 hours

Breakfast starts the day, and you will have chance to say farewell to the beasts of the Ol-Pejeta on an en-route morning game drive. A drive through the highland farms on the slopes of Mount Kenya and arid vegetations of Samburu, awaits you on your way to Samburu National Reserve.

Upon arrival at Samburu, you will experience a quick game drive through the park as you make your way to the accommodation that you’ve chosen for your stay. Here, you will be served a well-deserved lunch and then be whisked off on your first proper game drive. You’ll range through Samburu; with so many different environments in one park you can be sure each journey will be different to the next.

With plenty of scenery to take in on your way, and then the initial chances to spot the animals that you’ve travelled so far for, it’s time for dinner with nature surrounding you. Whichever camp or lodge that you choose to stay in, there will be a stunning dining room with vistas across the park.

The lodge is strategically situated atop elevated ground, offering sweeping vistas that encompass the distant Samburu Hills on one side and El Ndonyo Keri, known as Mount Kenya in Samburu, on the other.

Arranged in a pattern resembling buffalo horns, a total of thirty cottages converge near the public facilities area, providing resident wildlife with access to the lodge’s open-ended waterhole. The architectural design harmonizes seamlessly with the local Samburu housing style, ensuring a blend with the natural surroundings. Each cottage consists of two beautifully appointed bedrooms, each featuring two queen-size beds, a shower, and a private verandah. The construction, furnishings, and interior decor incorporate locally sourced materials. With high ceilings and ample space, the rooms offer an airy and comfortable ambiance. Full Day in Samburu National Reserve

You will be served breakfast at your camp or lodge and then begin your first complete day out in the plains of Samburu that you began discovering yesterday, and also take a trip to the adjacent Buffalo Springs National Reserve. These parks offer a contrast, with Samburu taking water and growing greenery from the flow of the Ewaso Ng’iro River, whilst Buffalo Springs is dry and arid.

Across the parks, you will have plenty of chances to find and photograph the big five of African safari, along with:

  • Baboons
  • Gazelles
  • Giraffes
  • Cheetahs

And plenty more besides.

Along with the forested areas of Samburu, you will traverse the ancient lava flows and striking geology of Buffalo Springs. Your guide will know which times are best to experience each park, and there will be stop for lunch back at your accommodation to make sure you have the energy for an afternoon out in the plains.

After a long day spent watching the glorious animals of Samburu and Buffalo Springs, it’s time to return to your home for the night, eat dinner, and rest up.
