Climb Mount Kenya on its most scenic traverse: up the gentle Sirimon route and down the dramatic Chogoria route. This 5-day trek takes you through montane forest, bamboo and open moorland to Point Lenana (4,985 m), the trekkers’ summit, in time for sunrise over the peaks of Batian and Nelion.
If you don’t have your own trekking equipment, we’ll advise you on the essential gear for the trek and direct you to a convenient local rental provider, so you can hire what you need before departure.
Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive towards Nanyuki, with an opportunity to stop at the Equator. Continue to Sirimon Gate, where the trek begins.
Walk through beautiful montane forest and bamboo vegetation before entering the open moorland. Enjoy the scenery as you gradually ascend towards Old Moses Camp (3,300 m).
After breakfast, begin the trek towards Shipton’s Camp (approximately 4,200 m). The trail passes through open moorland and scenic high-altitude valleys, with beautiful views of the surrounding peaks.
Arrive at Shipton’s Camp, where you will have dinner and rest in preparation for the acclimatization day.
